unconcerned
\nthe female mallard
\nfollows her mate<\/p>\n

green water
\na koi parts
\nthe reeds<\/p>\n

widening ripples
\npoets compare
\nflower names<\/p>\n

pagoda rail
\nlooking for inspiration
\nat the sky<\/p>\n

swaying cherry \u2013
\na gum leaf clings
\nto the rock face<\/p>\n

scudding clouds
\nochre-smudged buses
\nexit the car park<\/p>\n

Resting Place<\/strong><\/p>\n

You travelled ten thousand miles across rough seas and here you remain, bound by alien soil. You helped those less fortunate, held benefits for diggers whose tents burned down. The townspeople tell stories, lead me to maps and schemes scrawled in a fine hand on yellowed parchment. Under bleached skies I hear the eucalypts rustle in the autumn wind.<\/p>\n

wallaby grass…<\/em>
\n beside grandfather\u2019s grave<\/em>
\n pulling weeds<\/em><\/p>\n
